Ipe Seal from DeckWise® is a wax emulsion sealer proven to increase the structural integrity of hardwood decking. Designed to prevent end checking (drying splits) in freshly sawn logs, lumber, turning blanks, and other exposed wood end and face grain. Ipe Seal® creates a bond that extends the life of each deck board.
One quart of end sealer covers approximately 500 ft2 (46 m2) of decking.
It is highly recommended that end grain cuts are protected in order to prevent checks and splits. Due to differences in wood species, variety of climatic conditions, and an individual's usage methods; results are NOT guaranteed.
ABOUT:
Ipe Seal® End Grain Sealer is a nontoxic wax emulsion with natural, plant-based polymers to be applied on freshly cut deck boards, sawn wood, fences, railings, steps, turning blanks, and other exposed wood end grain. The sooner it is applied, the more effective it will be in preventing checking, cracking, splitting, and swelling. This wax-based end grain sealer is specially developed to seal all types and styles of wood (hard and soft) end grain to guard against moisture loss, degradation, and water intrusion.
Apply to the end grain of all wood, thermally modified wood, treated wood and composite material. Easily brushes on and dries clear.
DIRECTIONS:
Apply liberally with a brush to all end cuts "to the drip." Brush from the bottom of the board upwards. The sooner the sealant is applied to exposed end grain, the more effective the coating will be.
The application is recommended to the wood within 24 hours of cutting.
Test a small area to ensure acceptable appearance and penetration. Mix and stir contents or shake thoroughly before use. Do not use if the air or surface temperature is below 45°F/7.22°C or above 95°F/35°C. Do not apply in rain or when rain is imminent. Back brush or use a rag to wipe away any runs, drips, or puddles.
